Redski's Story

Red as we mostly called him was a red and white medium long haired Tabby.  He was very beautiful and affectionate.  Red loved going for rides in the car and enjoyed the view from the windows.  He had been abandoned, when his owner was put into a nursing home by her children.  After Red was neutered, he developed frequent bladder infections and it took 2 years and 3 veterinarians to figure out that he was diabetic.  He was our first insulin dependant animal but he was such a good sport, he never complained about his shots, which he had to endure twice a day.  Red lived for over five years with insulin and then suddenly he kept going into comas.  He was taken off insulin because his blood sugar was now way too low instead of too high.  After several emergencies, he could no longer be stabilized, he kept loosing consciousness.  He only outlived his friend James by 1 year.  James had reached the ripe old age of 23 before he succumbed o thyroid cancer, but Redski followed him at only 8 years of age.
