Owner Foster Program

While Pets Haven's main focus is to rescue stray and abandoned cats, we often receive requests for help from cat and dog owners who have legitimate lifestyle changes that require they re-home their animals, such as moving to a retirement home, serious illness or death of the owner. Pets Haven's "Owner-Foster Program" was set-up to help people place their own pets in new permanent homes, while serving as a "one-time only foster home". This means that the pet continues to live with their original owner, while Pets Haven does all the advertising and adoption process. "Free to good home" will not be accepted, there will always be an adoption fee in form of a donation.

When people express interest in your pet, Pets Haven does a complete home and property check on the prospective new guardian(s) and conducts a full interview. Approved new guardians must sign a Pets Haven adoption contract, and agree to receive follow-up calls to make sure the adoption was successful. We charge the new guardians our regular adoption fee, just like our ‘regular' adoptions. It can take anywhere from 7 days to 7 months to get animals adopted through Pets Haven.

Because we have such a shortage of regular foster homes, we do NOT take owner-surrendered animals and place them into our foster homes. Our few ongoing foster homes are reserved for animals that are "at risk" of starvation or being killed by other outside threats. Pets Haven advertises on the Internet, on their own web-page pets-haven.com and with Petfinder.com on a regular basis. Pets Haven volunteers take care of home checks, interviews, and follow up calls; but we do ask that you, as an owner-foster, provide transportation of your pet to meet us for home visits or veterinarian appointments.  We also ask you to pay for at least part of the cost of spaying and neutering of your animal.

We have volunteers to care for the animal and provide a carrier for travel when such need arises. If you are interested in this program, please contact Pets Haven via our phone (479-782-7002) or e-mail. We will respond as quickly as possible and can answer any questions you might have or get you the paperwork required to start you in the program.
